How Much Protein for Natural Bodybuilding
Question: Some top bodybuilders consume 500 grams of protein per day. Is this hard on your kidneys ? Do you need to be on steroids to take advantage of this much protein? What protein intake would you recommend for a natural bodybuilder? thanks, pete
Answer: Dear pete, I recommend getting 20 to 30 percent of your caloric intake from protein. This goes for anyone, not just bodybuilders. You don't really need that much more protein. Eating too much protein overloads your kidneys and steroids are just plain bad for you. I would also recommend eating .8 to 1 gram of protein per kilogram of your body weight (kilograms = pounds/2.2). There are lots of sites out there for natural bodybuilders that can give you more details.
