Lung Exercises for Asthma

Question: Do you know anything about lung exercise? My doctor says I have less than 30% of my lungs - I have asthma. He has never told me to exercise. Thanks, Mary

Answer: Mary, With such a severe case of asthma, I would urge you to ask your doctor about starting an exercise program, as anyone should anyway, with asthma or not. Your doctor can determine how much and what type of exercise is best for your condition and fitness level. Many asthma sufferers take up swimming, because the moist air help reduce the effects of the asthma. Runners and bikers with asthma often wear masks to keep their lungs moisturized.
