Tone Up while Losing Weight

Question: HI! I just happened to stumble onto your site! I want to thank you for having such an informative one. I'm one of those fit wannabes but can't seem to get the ball rolling! I thought maybe a friend would help, a walking partner, but all I get is complaints that I'm walking to fast or something. I really would like to get back into the swing of exercise and would appreciate any advise you can give me. I keep saying tomorrow I will start, I will get up in early morning and walk, but do think I done that yet? NOT! I even belong to a gym but have not been there in about 6 months. Well I went one or twice since then but just can get my butt back. HELP!!!! Please I'm in the process of losing weight and would really like the tone to go with it. Thank you very much! Your friend, Teresa

Answer: Hi Teresa, The first couple of workouts can be tough when you're starting off. Start ignoring that voice that makes excuses not to start. I know you can do it if you just start listening to the part of you that wants to get fit so badly. Do you enjoy exercise? There are so many different things you can do to make it fun. When I first started exercising years ago, I didn't think of it as "sweating to lose weight." I found something I really enjoyed doing...it was a hobby with awesome side effects -- without even thinking of weight or checking the scale, I lost 20 pounds in about 3 months. (I started with walking, and progressed to running.) I still have my days when I feel lazy, but when I think about how great I'll feel when I'm done with my workout, that's enough to get me out the door. Discipline is something you can develop. A good way to hold yourself accountable is to plan exactly when you're going to exercise for the week, write it down, and then check it off when you do it. Hope this helps you :) Good luck!
