Weight Gain after Guitting Smoking

Question: I am 49 and quit smoking three months ago. I have gained 15 pounds. For two weeks i have been doing aerobics and weight training, but the pounds keep inching on. I try to eat a low fat diet and i do drink plenty of water. I eat alot of apples (3-4) some say this is what is causing the weight. I know my metabolism has to get back to normal, but how long? Any advice would be great. Mailou

Answer: Mailou, When you quit smoking, your metabolism dropped (nicotine is known to raise metabolism). The length of time until your metabolism returns to normal will vary between individuals. It's possible that you may need to cut back a little more on calories (and apples). Visit the Articles section to see how many calories per day you need.
