Is Yoga Good or Bad for Your Back

Question: Hi: I decided to add to my workout regimen the yoga which you have suggested. At the yoga class, the trainer had the class lie on their backs and slowly bring their feet behind their heads. Even though I don't have back pain, I asked the trainer after class if it was safe for the back. He said he could almost guarantee I would never need a chiropractor if I keep doing those exercises. Do you think it's safe to put pressure on the vertebrae of your back? Peter

Answer: Peter, Your neck is in more danger than your back in this position. For some people, this pose would pose no problem, but I would never recommend anyone do this, especially at a beginner's level.
