What do you Look For in a Personal Trainer

Question: This might sound silly, but when people look for a trainer, do they look for someone with a perfect body? Zac

Answer: Zac, Unfortunately, many people think that working out with a trainer who has a perfect body will give them that same body. Many people simply aren't genetically wired for a "perfect body" (whatever the heck that is, anyway!). And in many cases, the trainers who know the most about training safely and correctly spend equal time working on their minds as well as their bodies, so they may not have the "hard body" look, but they'll help coach you to reach realistic goals better than steroid-head over there. Obviously someone who takes care of themselves will take care of you, too, just don't overemphasize image over content. The best football coaches don't necessarily play football the best, but they know how to make the players play the best. Here's a short list of what you should look for in a trainer: A degree in exercise or sports-related fields, or a certification with a reputable organziation, such as A.C.E., A.C.S.M., etc. (see below). You have to like them as a person, so meet with them and see if your personalities match. You want a trainer who will listen to all your goals and can explain how they will help you reach them. Someone who will fit your schedule and price range.
